Has anyone camped here before? It looks quite close to the sea

Well you will be able to see the sea from your tent yes but the field is the quarry side of the road so your not that close, no danger of falling in or getting wet from sea spray! :giggle:

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942

I hope it makes it up those hills!

Nobody mentioned hills! It's just going to be like "Ice Cold In Alex"! Jimbo get your german/ south African accent honed! Now to find Sylvia Sims - oh dear I feel faint!

I'm talking about the hills on the way up to Portland. Don't worry, Jimbo's quite strong!

Now that I've read through Old Un's inspiring piece in the new to the forum section, I feel guilty about bringing the plastic tent so I'll see if I can bring a canvas ridge tent, and get a couple of guys to help me put it up
The next thing is to get Fremsley to paint the silver battle bus in a nice olive drab colour and NAAFI along the side :giggle:

You know I'd love to mate. The original colour when produced was a sort of olive drab. Sadly the only original bit is the glove box-- attachment is not available --

Oh well then it must be done. It wont be in time for Il Giogo but certainly in time for Rhineland, I'll do that for free mate :good:
If you can get 5 litres of OD at Overlord I'll have it done by June.

I suspect that all the canvas tents in the world aren't going to help when that small field is chock full of cars. After getting thoroughly soaked at Hauptmann Horn I'm bringing my plastic one this time. We could always do a Gunman and have one side of the camp for period tents. Good for mood and photos.

Cheers
Martin

Well as much as I disagree with all of you - I have never been warmer, drier or more comfortable than in Canvas over nylon - you may do as you wish.

We haven't even decided yet, may just a shelter half for a windbreak and done with, may be a couple of pup tents. It will be a surprise.

Since we have the choice, I'm going modern, because I like to stand up when getting changed, rather than writhe around on a campbed in a Zelt tent.

http://www.cobbatoncombat.co.uk/sales/deac.htm these people are good and i got a period tent less the pegs for £25,i thought that was ok for a two man british pup tent and its not to low or to narrow for two people like most modern two man tents.

Cmon guys I forced 2 lads today to practice putting up period tent as I will have my hands full doing the Zelt.
Its the Tropical South, I do admit I wimped out at Hauptmann Horn but that was Wales, I know the sun shines as it did all day but it p***ed it down all night so was glad for the nylon tent.

Whats with all the negative vibes :happydance: Think warm and sunny

It's a myth that plastic tents are drier, I was at Hauptman Horn as well and my bell tent was dry as a bone inside :giggle:

It's not the dryness, it's being able to stand up, put trousers on without being a contortionist and enough room for all my kit. I'm still saving up for a Bell tent, which is what I really want.

The cheapest I've seen is a 3m at £220 posted. Just waiting for a bargain to line up with having funds at the right time. Stof's tent size are £300 ish. Call it a Yurt and its double that!
